Expert on European Union development policy,
Dr Peter Heil is an expert on EU development policy. He currently works as director and partner of the Hungarian ALTUS Group.
He graduated and obtained a PhD at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences. He studied EU affairs at the Universities of Heidelberg and Oxford.
Between 1995 and 2010, he was a civil servant in the Prime Minister’s Office and four different ministries in Hungary. From 1998 to 2002, he coordinated the EU’s Phare Programme. From 2002 to 2007, he served as vice president of the National Development Agency (NDA), in charge of the EU’s Structural Funds in Hungary.
As a consultant, Dr Heil has been involved in consultancy assignments for the EU Commission as well as projects of different international donors in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Kosovo, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.
His special area of expertise is related to the programming, management and monitoring of EU funds, both pre- and post-accession, and the design of effective and efficient procedural and institutional frameworks for the delivery of development programmes.
